PNEUMOLOGY

Pneumology is a branch of internal medicine that studies diseases of the respiratory system.

At the Dalla Rosa Prati Medical Centre, healthcare assistance is based on the implementation of diagnostic and therapeutic programmes which is a result from the experience gained from the frequent contacts with important Italian and foreign reference clinics.

The medical centre deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the respiratory system, particularly:

• lung cancer
• chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
• bronchial asthma
• diffuse infiltrative lung diseases
• pleural pathology (cancer, primary and metastatic, infectious and pneumothorax)
• infectious pathology of the lung
• pulmonary embolism
• rare pathologies of the lung.

Pneumology and thoracic endoscopy also monitor the patients undergoing lung transplant.
The Thoracic Endoscopy service performs all methods of interventional pulmonology: diagnostic and operative bronchial endoscopy (laser therapy and placement of tracheobronchial prosthesis) in adult and paediatric patients.
Thoracic endoscopy is also the reference centre for neighbouring provinces regarding foreign bodies in paediatric patients.
Thoracoscopies are performed for the diagnosis and treatment of pleural effusion and pneumothorax. Fine needle transparietal aspirations are also performed under the control of CT in patients with peripheral lung lesions in collaboration with medical Radiology and Oncology.
