GROWTH SCAN

The third trimester scan is usually performed between 30 – 32 weeks of pregnancy. The aim of this scan is to check on fetal growth progress and well being in both women without risk factors and routine pregnancy but mainly in those at risk for maternal and/or fetal pathology (diabetes mellitus or fetal growth defect). The growth scan is carried out to:

• perform fetal biometry (measurement of the head, abdomen, thigh-bone and shoulder) and estimate fetal weight

•  assess placental location

•  measure the quantity of amniotic fluid

•  assess blood flow inside the umbilical cord

The scan results are immediately available and include a DVD and pictures (prints and digital images).
