Multi-layer CT scan

This diagnostic exam makes use of a sophisticated x-ray machine to obtain detailed radiological images of specific areas of the body.

During the test which usually does not last more than 30 minutes, the patient is made to lie on a bed which slides into a machine.
The source of x-rays revolves around the area to be examined. It collects images that are then processed by a computer. In some cases a contrast agent is administered to the patient.
The patient absorbs a quantity of radiation which is higher than the traditional x-ray test. This is used especially to diagnose tumours, but also to detect other pathologies such as those in the abdominal organs and the skeletal-muscular and nervous system.
The machine used is the latest multi-layer CT which can photograph the parts to be examined in ultra-thin sections. The advantage, compared to the traditional CT scan, is to have a greater number of images in a very short period of time.
