NHS accredited

Mammography uses x-rays to carry out a very accurate study of the breast through the use of a dedicated unit called the mammograph.

It is undoubtedly the most important exam for the diagnosis of breast cancer.

The breast is positioned on a special plate and compressed with a plastic paddle. Generally, two projections are performed for each breast; on the whole the test takes 10-15 minutes. No drugs are administered nor are contrasting means used; there is no preparation needed before the test.

For women still having menstrual periods, the exam should be carried out one week following their period, when breast tissue is less tense and can be compressed easily. Postmenopausal women can schedule their mammogram any time.
