Cardiac MRI
With a dedicated reel, cardio-magnetic resonance can be performed (Cardio-MR) which carries out a non-invasive total exploration of the heart.
Moreover, it is very effective in evaluating heart attack.
Cardiac magnetic resonance, also called cardio-MR, provides a totally non-invasive assessment of the heart, producing an image quality that cannot be reached with traditional methods.
No other technique can combine functional and anatomical information allowing for an extensive and complete assessment of the heart’s functions. The exam is carried out in the same way as a normal MRI but it lasts longer, in average 50-60 min. To avoid discomfort caused by the noise of the machine, the patient can wear headphones and listen to music and/or stay in touch with the medical staff.
Cardiac MRI is used in patients with congenital cardiomyopathy to perform morphological and functional evaluations; it is very useful in the screening, diagnosis and follow up of aortic pathologies (imaging diagnostics of atheromas, intramural haematoma versus atherosclerotic plaques). The exam is also very helpful in the assessment of ischemic heart disease (heart attack).
