Check-up
The Dalla Rosa Prati Health Centre has opened a new comprehensive health check service that can be personalized. Many people consider regular health assessments very useful and for this reason they ask their GP to carry out a series of tests often included in a standard package.
Health screenings are fundamental as they allow an early discovery of common health problems which can also be very serious. A Check-up is useful only if it is an “assessment of the health condition of an individual” and not a just a series of tests.
The added value of such a medical service is the broader assessment carried out by a clinical doctor who analyzes both exam results and the psychophysical characteristics of an individual. In this way the doctor can identify potential risk factors which could change health conditions over time.
We all know that you cannot stop the onset of a disease for sure but you can identify possible predispositions or wrong lifestyles in order to change habits and prevent or slow down the onset of an illness. It’s not only early detection and diagnosis but also primary prevention i.e. actions to protect against disease and disability.
Our programme is based on a common procedure:
A. Assignment of a “case-manager”who collects all medical history information and stores it in a computer. Besides usual family history, review of systems and details on recent and past diseases, particular attention is given to information on useless habits, eating habits, physical activity, anthropometric measurements, regular and acute medications, work history.
In this way a patient’s data-base will be created and used for following assessments and scheduled tests which will be carried out on one day.
B. Basic laboratory tests.
C. Common tests:
-
a. Heart assessment including examination, electrocardiogram and echocardiogram
- b. ultrasound scan of the upper abdomen
- c. ultrasound scan of the lower abdomen
- d. Chest Rx (if smoker and/or upon case-manager’s advice)
D. Then the screening will continue following three different profiles involving specific tests:
-
a. Profile A: Woman
- i. PAP test
- ii. Mammography + clinical examination and ultrasound scan
- iii. ENT Examination + larynx inspection (if smoker)
- iv. Dermatology examination for Melanoma prevention
- v. Ophthalmology examination Visit (upon specific advice)
-
b. Profile B: Man, age < 50 years old
-
i. PSA test
- ii. ENT Examination + larynx inspection (if smoker)
- iii. Dermatology examination for Melanoma prevention
- iv. Ophthalmology examination Visit (upon specific advice)

E. Final examination with case-manager’s report. Further in-depth investigations will be planned on the basis of the results of these tests. In case all results are negative the check-up is finished. Other health screenings may be planned for the following years according to the patient’s age and case-manager’s advice. Instead, if further tests are needed, the case manager will decide which ones should be performed. No standard test packages are used.
The case manager, in agreement with the patient, will contact the GP so that the screening or treatment procedure becomes a personal case to be faced in a clinical integrated way. Our aim is to offer a highly qualified service which takes care of your health in its broader meaning. We have the tools and expertise at our disposal to provide each patient with all the necessary support in the unfortunate case further medical care is needed. Finally we would like to point out that the entire health screening procedure is carried out in one day, from the morning to the afternoon, and further expensive tests will be performed only if truly necessary.
